Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency
Operating responsibly is a key for Signode sustainability portfolio. Being more efficient with energy use alongside using and generating more renewable energy sources is tied to how we can make an impact to minimize our carbon footprint. Signode Europe has been investigating different PPA / VPPA opportunities over the last 4 years. We buy renewable electricity from our regular provider, through the grid. It comes at a premium, and together with green certificates, so we are able to justify to our stakeholders and customers, the extend and progress of our decarbonisation activities.
Discover a selection of stories from our efforts around the globe to make climate action a Twentyby30 pillar. Our aims are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals; goal 7. affordable and clean energy, goal 12. responsible consumption and production, goal 13. climate action. Use and Generation of Renewable Energy
Sites committed to 100% Renewable Energy
We are committed to using 100% renewable energy to power our facilities.
What are we doing?
- At our plants in Ireland, Belgium and the Netherlands we are committed to renewables and our sites are 100% powered by renewable energy.
Generating Renewable Energy
We aimed to bring energy efficiency via bringing our own sources of renewables to the grid.
What are we doing?
- At our plants in India and Africa across multiple facilities we have installed a solar panels at the facility.
- In EMEA in some facilities we are partially generating renewable energy and sourcing the rest of the energy portfolio from renewable sources.
Being Energy Efficient
We strive for energy efficiency and follow best practice programs around the world, we respect achievement and award sites for individual accomplishments.
Energy Efficiencies
Across multiple sites globally, we implemented projects focused on making electricity savings minimizing CO₂ emissions.
What are we doing?
- We installed a variable speed compressor to save energy by adjusting compressor speed to the load demands.
- Relocated and commissioned the chillers nearer to loads to reduce capacity of circulating pumps
- Designed and installed energy efficient air compressor to save energy by adjusting the compression speed to the load demands
Transportation Changes
We adjusted how loads are being dispatched to find more sustainable options than multiple frequent dispatches via road transportation and lower our Scope3 emissions.
What are we doing?
- Identified scenarios where dispatch via rail reduces emissions via fuel savings
