Protection for Long Products with Circular Profiles

The Challenge

We were challenged to find a sustainable, easy to use and lightweight packaging solution to provide damage resistance and load protection for the product.

A manufacturer of consumer and educational movie screens was seeking a sustainable packaging solution to replace wooden crates and single-use foam inserts. The products, can be up to 20 feet long, require unique support and packaging.

The Solution

Signode’s Engineered Solutions Design Center in Danville, Virginia, worked closely with the Signode Packaging Lab in Roselle, Illinois, Signode Sales, and the customer’s packaging distributor to design and test packaging options. 

After testing Signode suggested replacing the foam packaging with Signode’s sustainable Multi-Wall™ Flat Pads, Reverse Slit-Score Honeycomb and U-Channel Pads. Flat Pads are a sustainable, customizable option that absorbs transit shocks and provides blocking, spacing, and void filling. Reverse Slit-Score Honeycomb is for the challenges faced protecting the screens circular profiles. And Signode’s Multi-Wall U-Channel Pads provided additional cushioning around product edges. 

This custom-designed and tested solution offers a sustainable alternative to foam packaging, meets the unique requirements of long, cylindrical products, and helps provide protection throughout the transportation cycle.
